Perry Lakes Park

This is a short documentary of my recent visit to Perry Lakes Park, located just an hour and a quarter from Birmingham, Alabama, on Highway 175 in Perry County, outside of Marion, Alabama. Located at the entrance of the park is a fish hatchery. This park is a great place to visit and has an abundance of wildlife and some beautiful cypress swamps, with trails and even resting benches to enjoy well positioned views of the swamp. Also included is a really original covered bridge and a repurposed fire tower that provides an above-the-canopy view of the swamp. Be sure and pack and apply your bug repellant, as this is a swampy area and there are mosquitos. More information is located in the video page description.

Veteran’s Park, Fort Walton Beach, Florida

This is a video of a walk through the beautiful and bird-rich Okaloosa County Veteran's Park (also name Ross Marler Park) located in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. There are a great variety of birds in a small area making it a great place to bird. Also, it is a Great Blue Heron Rookery, with a large number of Great Blue Herons on the nest. This was my first visit there and I met a very knowledgeable fellow (Thanks Tony!) who was very welcoming about the birds seen there.

Cahaba River Wildlife Refuge

This is a short documentary of my recent visit to the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge, located just about 45 minutes southwest of Birmingham, Alabama. This short film highlights some of the river itself, Caffee Creek, as well as a very small sampling of the flora and fauna of the refuge. More information is found in the page description of this video. Enjoy!

Hale County Birding Trip

This is a short video of a birding trip down to a beautiful area in Hale County, Alabama, which is located in the west central part of the state. Hale County is also a part of the "Black Belt" in Alabama, which is an area that spans several counties in the southern central part of the state, known for its rich black fertile soil, making it great for farming. This beautiful area contains a large number of open fields, wooded areas and a large number of catfish farms. There is more information provided in the page description below the video.

Eastlake Park - Birmingham, Alabama

This is a short documentary of my recent visit (April 30, 2020) to East Lake Park located in Birmingham, Alabama. Much more of the historical information about this park is found in the page description of the YouTube video.

Karick Lake - Blackwater River State Forest

I was traveling alone from Miramar Beach, Florida to Birmingham, Alabama and had my video cam with me. I was wondering where I may stop along the way to break up my trip 4.5 hour trip. This spot, which is part of the Florida Birding Trail, is located in the Blackwater River State Forest area between Baker, Florida and Andalusia, Alabama. There is a sign on the road (State Road 189) that I travel on my route that I have passed hundreds of times but never taken the time to stop. I decided to check it out this time and give it a look. I was pleasantly surprised. Check it out if you are in the vicinity!
