Golf Products

Golf is a game that I discovered later in life. Known as a lifetime sport, I am glad that I found it! Golf is not only a game that is social and a game that takes a while to master, but it is also a game that gets one outside into beautiful surroundings, where you can enjoy nature while playing a sport!

Since I am a lifetime student of most any interest that I pursue, a lot of the products put forth here are for me to get better at the game through practice at home, the chipping and putting greens. The products that I put forth below are designed to improve and enhance your golf game as well as fitness level so that you can gain more enjoyment out of this great game.

Anyway, have a look and let me know if you have any products that you might recommend. Enjoy!

This Garmin watch is not only an excellent watch for telling time & with excellent fitness monitoring (such as heart rate, oxygen saturation level, stress level, body battery, calories burned, steps, floors climbed, etc.) but is also a great golf watch that has built-in GPS which shows distances to the pin, (front, back & middle of the green), but also hazards and distances to these hazards. Not only that, when used alongside the Garmin app (when the round is completed), stats on your game and club performance can be determined. It even has a golf caddy feature, that recommends which club to hit based on the club data accrued in the Garmin app, which transfers to and then resides in your watch after synching your watch at home. This particular watch also uses an AMOLED display that gives a bright clear screen, even in sunlight. Watch faces are configurable, so you can set it up as complicated or as minimalistic as you wish. Also, the size is smaller than some of the Garmin Fenix series watches and appears more lightweight. Consider this an investment in your health and golf game.

Motocaddy is a great product for those who wish to start walking with their golf clubs, so as to get more cardio exercise. Folks who hesitated to use a pull cart due to being unsure that they could complete the round pulling their clubs or would be too worn out to swing, can now use this golf trolly to walk without the weight of clubs and a pull cart. Additionally this particular model has a built-in GPS so, no need to carry a GPS scope. There are accessories such as a cup holder, phone mount, scorecard holder and umbrella holder available as an accessory pack. This unit completely folds down, with wheels that invert and easily fits into the trunk of one’s car or SUV.

If you have a golf setup at home (practice net and golf hitting mat) that you use to practice hitting golf balls, this product helps you shag the balls without doing a lot of bending over to pick up hit balls (which is tiring and takes it own toll). Then with the balls all retrieved in the unit, it serves them out one at a time to you when you are again practicing. No fishing around in a golf ball tray. This puts the ball right where you want it for your next shot by tapping on the lever, it releases only one ball at a time. Ingenious!

I already have a putting mat at home. However, you have to have a lot of room as once you put in one direction, you have to go to the other side and retrieve balls and then put in the other direction. This may not sound like a chore, but it takes time. With this unit, all missed putts are returned to your feet and you get to keep practicing, providing you more efficient use of your time and more time to practice your putting. Putting comprises 1-3 shot at each hole, so it is important to include this in you home practice regimen.

If you that you don’t have enough time to get out to the golf course driving/chipping range, this is a great option that will save you time and money in the long run. You not only don’t have to pay for renting golf balls, but also save on the wear and tear on your car, gasoline expense or the time it takes to drive back and forth. You can even practice on days with inclement weather days or off-season. This is a collapsible net that easily stores in a basement of garage, only takes minutes to set up and catches all hit balls returning them in a small area at the foot of the net for you to pick up. The target shield is a separate mat from the net, ensuring that you won’t drive through the net itself. The top net is to contain high chip shots. A worthwhile investment for those who like to practice often or just enjoy getting in golf swings to stay limber and to reduce stress.

While I have had different divot tools in the past, this one looked like the Swiss Army knife of divot tools, that includes a ball marker, club or cigar holder, a small brush for a light club cleaning and supposed groove cleaner that clips to your belt. In all a very functional tool.

If you want to practice your short game, this net allows you to practice a number of short game type shots. Collapsible and light weight, a great tool, especially if combined with the Spornia net above to capture and collect any mishit balls.

How many times have you chunked a chip shot? Here is a tool to help you do refined work on the chip shot part of your short game. This net collects the balls that you hit in the proper targets as well as those hit right or left. If used with the Spornia net on this page, you are sure that no miship chip shots run far off for you to have to chase down and gather. A great tool to help improve your chip shots.

If you don’t have a level grassy area of your yard to practice hitting golf balls at home, consider getting a good golf hitting mat, which allows you to set up in a driveway, basement room or garage so that you can practice even in the off-season or inclement weather.

Serious golfers who want to work on their swing to prevent the outside-in swings that produce those nasty slices, now have a great tool that uses alignment rods most serious golfers already own to help create a swing barrier to help train you to swing in the right plane to help optimize your swing towards better ball contact. This one uses real steel nuts and bolts to prevent from slipping or over-tightening and breaking. A good tip is to put a pool noodle over the alignment rod so as to reduce the impact when your club hits the alignment rod.

Awesome training aid for aligning stance, swing plane, ball positioning etc. Great for use with Swing Plate on this page.

This is a reasonably priced launch monitor with a lot of reviews on YouTube that you can watch. It can be used with a golf practice net, or on the range. It can also be used as a golf simulator, when combined with the Garmin app and an iPhone or iPad. For $9.99/month it will allow you to play some 42,000 courses in Home Tee Hero. It can also be used with the E6 Connect simulator platform. It comes with a license to play 5 courses on that platform. Additional courses need an additional license from E6 Connect. When used with the Garmin ecosystem (C10 Sensors, Garmin Watch, Garmin app) you can gather stats on how you hit all your clubs, giving you an advantage on the golf course and information to improve your game.

The Golfer’s Toolbox is an awesome tool that has a host of tools and uses to complement your golf training regimen. It even comes with a book and DVD to show you how you can put it to use. While this great tool kit has been around awhile, there are still YouTube videos of how to use it.

I found this to be a great lightweight and reasonably priced full zip jacket that stores easily in the golf bag. I like the full zip design as it increases air circulation when needed but when zipped up helps keep out the wind and rain. Great when using a clothing layering system when weather conditions change out on the course.

Have you ever wondered if you are making the right decisions out on the golf course? I know that I have. Should I lay up on this shot or go for the green? What about the hazards in the fairway or around the green, how should I play them? These question all revolve around golf strategy and what is called “golf course management.” Golf course management is really about putting yourself in situations that play to your strengths, and avoiding situations that expose your weaknesses. This book by Jon Sherman won’t tell you how to improve your swing, but rather how to score better on the golf course. Jon also has a podcast called Sweet Spot on Spotify if you want to get tips on improving your game.

This is a great training tool to help train you from flipping your wrist at impact. If you notice the pros, their wrists lag with the butt of the club handle in front of the club head at impact, more consistently creating more ball compression and getting more distance with each ball strike.

Are you one of those folks who are committed to get better at golf and regularly make trips to the driving range? Do you find that hitting balls at the driving range hasn’t really helped your game? Maybe that is because you aren’t really practicing in a way that will actually improve your golf swing and effective striking of the golf ball. In this book, Adam Young reveals strategies on how to not only hit the ball better through better swings and ball contact, but how to plan your practice towards improvement. Unlike Jon Sherman’s book on Golf course management, this one focuses on technique and developing better techniques and focuses on tasks within practice plans to help improve your game. He and Jon Sherman both host Sweet Spot podcast on Spotify.

Help improve your swing to iron out bad habits with this very portable swing tool. Can be used at home or out on the range.

These sensors screw into the butt of your golf club handle and communicate with your Garmin Watch in gathering distance data with whatever club in your bag that these are used. While you can opt for a smaller set (see the offer below), this is an invaluable investment to gather data and keeps you from having to enter a lot of data while out on the golf course. Knowing the average and max distances that you hit each club can help you determine the best club to use in most every situation, which can help improve your scores. Using these with the Garmin golf watches, the Garmin Epix or some Garmin Fenix watches, uses the distance data collected from each club and provides a virtual caddie that recommends what club to hit, based on where you are on the course! These are a great addition to the Garmin ecosystem!

This swing trainer (at nearly half the price of the Orange Whip) is a great warmup tool before a match and one that can help stretch you for correct hip and shoulder rotation and also fine tune your tempo. I carry it with me in my golf bag and can even warm up before drives. A great tool to keep in your golf bag!

The more I am around folks who play golf, the more I hear about injuries and aches and pains. And this is not just from senior golfers. This tool will not only help you physically to develop your body to prevent future injuries, it is also a tool to help strengthen your muscles to help develop more power in your swing. While you can opt for the GolfForever program, there are also plenty of YouTube Videos out there on how to best leverage this injury-preventing and golf-strengthening tool.

I don’t know about you and how you handle the grass and dirt from your golf shoes before tossing them in your car after a round of golf, but I found that I needed a tool like this to keep the dirt and grass contained. This helps keep my car cleaner. You can empty the bag when home and your shoes can be cleaned off more thoroughly and then put back in this bag, clean and ready for your next round.

I know we all like our golf caps to keep the sun out of our eyes when on the course. We are also in search of caps that keep our heads cooler as most times golf is played more in the warmer months. The more that I play golf, I found that spending a lot of time in the sun also poses more of a risk of getting skin cancer. Young players need to consider this as well as damage accrues over time and while it may not be evident now, it will eventually show up. Knowing this, I have made the decision to move to a golf hat instead of a cap. A hat provides more covering for my whole head and more coverage for my neck. This hat has the right combination of brim stiffness and with in the right place and I think looks better than some of the wider floppy brimmed hats that some folks wear. The large air venting in the crown of the hat allows heat to escape. There are versions of this hat that have much wider brims, but for now, I think this is a good start on ramping up my sun protection.

While some folks harbor huge golf bags with lots of pockets, crowding out the other person’s bag in the golf cart, I have made the move to size down my bag. This reduction in size also limits the number of pockets, forcing me to drop my wallet, phone and keys in deeper more cavernous pockets that have me scrambling around in my golf bag after the round trying to locate my keys and phone. This product consolidates my phone and keys and even includes some good organization for items such as tees, glove and divot tools needed to quickly secure at the beginning of each round. A great little organizer that takes up minimal space in your bag, but speeds up before and after round activities.

This is an item that goes along with a golf pull cart or my Motocaddy trolly cart above. Yes, it does seem like a luxury and unnecessary item. However, if you are walking the course, the last thing you want to worry about is hydration issues. Golf carts have coolers or a way to carry even ice in a bag with drinks. Pull carts and golf trolly’s don’t. So, this little add- on allows me to toss a couple of drinks or sandwich into this bag cooler with a few frozen inserts for on-the-course refreshment or revitalization.

While you may not can afford the full set of club tracking sensors as advertised above, why not buy them over time. It is valuable to learn the distances that you hit each of the clubs in your bag. Even if you don’t end up buying the whole set, why not invest in this starter kit and after learning the distance of the first three clubs of choice, you can then put them on three more clubs. Keep rotating these sensors through your bag until you have a good idea of the distances of all your clubs.

Do you have issues with flipping your wrists at impact causing ugly slices? This tool helps train you with feedback measurements on your wrist positions at address, top and impact positions. It can be used with all your clubs. While it gives feedback immediately after each shot, it also collects the data for all the shots in your session so that you can get overall percentages on each of the three positions, telling you what you need to work on. Then compare each session to see if your percentages are improving with subsequent sessions. A great tool to have to work on your swing anywhere, be it home or on the range!

This launch monitor by SkyTrak uses a different technology than the Garmin R10 launch monitor pictured above. The Garmin uses doppler radar, which requires more space if you plan to use it as a launch monitor. It requires 8 feet in front of the ball and 6 feet behind the ball for a total of 14 feet to effectively use the unit. Unfortunately, I have the unit set up in my garage in one of the parking spaces and since the net is in the middle between two cars, I don’t have 14 feet. The SkyTrak monitor allows use in a much smaller space, as it uses high-speed photography to conduct its measurements. The SkyTrack is purchased with different packages. This one only has the range. But you can upgrade to the Game Improvement package which is recommended. If you want to play simulator golf on courses, you have to upgrade to the Play and Improve package. Once you buy the unit, you can upgrade on the SkyTrak website. Additionally, a metal case is recommended since this unit sits beside where you hit the ball.

As mentioned above in the SkyTrak description, this is the protective case that should be used with the SkyTrak unit as one errant hit ball could destroy your investment in the SkyTrak monitor (an expensive mistake). The unit has adjustable legs so that it can be leveled and adjusted to the height of your hitting mat. A wise investment!
